IOR is pleased to announce that construction has commenced at the IOR Lytton Terminal to deliver 110 million litres (ML) of new diesel storage to the Brisbane market.
Taking place in the Port of Brisbane precinct, the project involves repurposing IOR’s existing 50ML crude oil storage tank for diesel fuel storage and constructing two new tanks with combined capacity of 60ML. Additional construction works for the project include:
- Building a new tanker truck loading area, designed to accommodate up to AB triples.
- Construction of a new wharf deck and marine unloading arm.
- Construction of a 3.2KM pipeline (underground and above ground), connecting the terminal to the new wharf deck.
- Construction of all new safety and ancillary systems, including a new containment bund, fire protection, vapour recovery, diesel filtration, and fuel additive injection systems.
The project will create over 260 jobs in construction and prioritise local procurement. To date, over $14 million in project expenditure has been awarded to local businesses. The total budget for the project is approximately $50 million and IOR expect that up to 90% of this budget will be awarded to Queensland suppliers.
Upon project completion, anticipated for June 2023, the Lytton Fuel Terminal will be Queensland’s largest diesel-only import terminal and a champion for fuel security. It will supply Transport, Agriculture, Resources and many other industries that are critical to the livelihoods of Queenslanders and Queensland businesses.
To accelerate the completion of the project, the Queensland State Government has provided IOR with a $15 million dollar loan. This funding was officially announced by the Deputy Premier and Minister for State Development, Hon. Steven Miles and the Member for Lytton, Ms Joan Peace, at the Terminal on 3rd February 2022.

The Lytton Fuel Terminal will be IOR’s second diesel import terminal, following IOR’s acquisition of the Port Bonython Fuel Terminal in 2020.
